Scientific and Archaeological Diving
Approximate Course Duration: 2 weeks
A course designed to teach you the disciplines involved in practicing science and archaeology underwater. The two week course is run for The Underwater Centre by Peter Pritchard, a leading expert in underwater archaeological & scientific training. It provides theoretical and hands-on training in areas such as: an insight into archaeology; surveying skills; care and conservation techniques; and recording techniques including underwater photography and video. It also teaches you the skills required to carry out environmental impact surveys. Training takes place in the classroom, in our large onshore training pool and in open water and students who complete the course successfully will be awarded a certificate recognized by international and professional bodies, including in the preliminary stages the Nautical Archaeology Society Part 1 in underwater archaeology.
The course is suitable for scientists and archaeologists wanting to improve their underwater skills, or for commercial divers wanting to work in the scientific sector.
