RYA Powerboat Course

Approximate Course Duration: 2 days

The Underwater Centre's RYA Powerboat course is recognised as the 'driving licence' for powerboats and is designed to teach you how to operate RIBs and other small motorised craft safely. The course is internationally recognised, so you can be sure that the skills and certification you'll receive will be valuable to you and employers.

Power boat handling is one of the skills that you will be trained on as part of the Premium Industry Package and will make you more of an asset to prospective employers.

During the two day course, you'll learn about:

  • launch and recovery;
  • confined space manoeuvering;
  • mooring;
  • man over board procedures;
  • anchoring;
  • towing;
  • engine checks;
  • high speed handling;
  • collision regulations;
  • buoyage;
  • basic chartwork;
  • navigation;
  • tides;
  • communication afloat;
  • emergency procedures.

On successful completion of the course, you'll receive an RYA logbook and your RYA Level 2 certificate. Students will need to apply to the RYA for a commercial endorsement of their Level 2 certificate.

British citizens who have completed their RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate can apply to RYA for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) for vessels up to 10m / 33ft.

Our RYA Powerboat course is fun, informative and rewarding and has proven to be that little bit extra when it comes to putting you ahead of the pack when it comes to securing work.

For those not choosing the Premium Industry Package, the Powerboat Course can be added to the course you are on for an additional fee.
